I can't figure out how to get rid of a paragraph symbol that is popping
up in the text of every new Word document. Additionally, I see
formating as I type text -- annoying little arrows, and dots.

I am sure this is a click fix, I just cannot seem to ask the -correct-
help question.

It sounds as though you just have the formatting marks visible. In your
toolbar, there should be a button with a paragraph symbol on it... I'm
assuming also that it is already pressed down... Just click on it again
to pop the button up and the formatting marks should be hidden once
again. (Office assistant / Help may have more info. by typing in
"formating marks")
