Default missing heading style in MS Word

When I look at the list of styles and formatting, I only see options to
choose Clear formatting, Headings 1, 2 & 3, and Normal. I need a heading 4
(at least), but can't create it since that's apparently a pre-defined style.
I know how to create styles for text in paragraphs, but don't know how to get
the headings past level 3. I seem to have the option to change the default
heading numbering from 1, 1.1, 1.1.1, etc. to something else (e.g., A, A.1,
A.1.a etc via the change formatting option for bullets & numbering, but do I
want to do that? That option shows levels 4-9, so why don't those show up in
the list of styles? I'm using Windows XP with MS Word 2002.
