Default Microsoft Word numbering problem

Hi,

I am using Word 2007 and this weird numbering problem keeps bugging me. Actually, I am writing a paper in which I have headlines and sub-headlines under them. So, I need two different kinds of numbering systems, i.e 1,2,3 and so on, and 1.1, 2.1, 3.1, and so on. However, I am not being able to apply the desired numberings to my headings. I tried modifying the "heading 1" and "heading 2" buttons above but for some reason, it doesn't seem to work. Can anyone help please? Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Gajalu
