I inserted a table of contents and it is shaded. It does not print shaded but
it appears that way. It is annoying. I tried everything to have it appear as normal text but nothing happens. My table of contents is set up so that when you click a page number it automatically goes to that page. Would this be why it is shaded? |

The clickable hyperlink is not shading it.
Word shades Fields to tell you that they are fields rather than regular text, and a TOC is a field, where Word generates the text instead of you typing it. You can control whether Fields are shaded in Tools | Options | View, but the shading does nothing but inform you it's a field, so it really doesn't matter whether it shows up or not. Also, if you are sending the doc to someone else, I'm pretty sure that what you set doesn't matter--all that matters is what they set on their computer. It's nothing to worry about. You could convert the TOC to regular text, and then it wouldn't be a field. But it would also not update when the doc changed.
