I don't think that it can be done. For it to work, the footer in the main
document would need to be "unlinked" from the footer in the previous section and as there is no previous section, there is nothing from which it can be unlinked. -- Hope this helps. My problem now is trying to do all this in a footer. Nothing I have tried manually or with code seems to update all the footers in my merged document.
