Barcode Font
We use a 3 of 9 barcode font to generate labels via a mail merge and have had
no problems with it until we recently switched from an NT4 / Word 97 environment to an XP SP2 / Word 2003 SP2 environment. We now find that none of the printed barcodes can be scanned. It appears that Word 2003 is now adding a paragraph marker to the barcode text which causes the scan failure. I have tried using other fonts without success. This problem doesn't affect the use of the font in Access or Excel 2003. Any ideas ? |

Barcode Font 39 and Word 2003
We are having the same problem, it seems to be an issue with the freeware
barcod39.ttf font and Word 2003. The font used to work without problem in Word 97. Characters that are normally hidden in Word (e.g. Paragraph markers, table cell markers, field markers) are now being displayed (and printed) in the Barcode font ( when paragraph markers are switched off. Strangely if you switch paragraph markers on, where you would expect to see an end of line paragraph marker it becomes blank. I have tried the workaround suggested ... Tools Options Edit tab Uncheck "Use smart paragraph selection" but this did not work. Is there any other solution/workaround because we are reluctant to purchase another font, change hundreds of templates and regression test everyhting again?? I can supply the font and an example if anybody wants to see it. It may be that the presence of paragraph formatting is altering the position of the bar code. More likely, the barcode font in use on the Windows XP machine is not the correct one. Barcode Font 39 and Word 2003
Just to say we've got exactly the same problem and hundreds of templates to
deal with. The only solution I've found is to Ctrl-Space every space, tab and paragraph mark in the bar code font (this of course changes the font back to the normal style). It's going to take a long time... "Steve" wrote: We are having the same problem, it seems to be an issue with the freeware barcod39.ttf font and Word 2003. Barcode Font 39 and Word 2003
I thought I'd let you know that I posted this on the Word Programming page
and have put together a macro that searches an entire document/template (including headers, footers, tables and textboxes) and removes paragraph marks, tabs and spaces in the bar code font we use (which are what is causing the problem extra bar codes). You might want to copy and adapt this as necessary. The thread is "Find/replace in all areas of document".
