Default Word Non-responsive in the middle of working on a document

Hi ?B?SmVuSw==?=,

Working in Word 2000, on Windows 2000, I get about 10 pages into my document
and all of a sudden, when I try to change a tab or margin, Word stops
responding.

I can open the file up again, and then I can copy and paste everything into
a new file and it's fine, but I would like to prevent this from happening
again (it's happened a few times now). The odd thing I have noticed is that
the 'corrupt' file balloons in size (13.8 Mb v. the 2.5 Mb of the copied
version of the file).

What is happening and how can I fix it?

If you copy and paste everything, then chances are you're dragging the problem
along. Try copying and pasting everything EXCEPT the very last paragraph mark
(Ctrl+A, then Shift+LeftArrow).
