Default Slow Word - as usual

Word is taking 20 seconds to open and same to close. This began
spontaneously. It worked OK for a long time.
I have been on the MVP site and tried the solutions there, as follows:

- I started with Run Winword.exe /a and Word started immediately
- I tried to look for dot file in the Word Startup folder but the folder
seems to be empty. I made sure files were not hidden.
- I deleted Normal.dot but this didnt help
- I renaming other .dot files to .old but gave up after about 10 (there are
lots of Works templates)
- I disabled the relevant Norton plug in
- I deleted the reg key HKEY_Current_User/Softeware/Microsoft
Office/10.0/Word/Data. This didnt help either.
- I reinstalled Word. Again did not help.

MS Support got me to delete some addins (installed by progs supplied with
digital camera) and this reduced dealy for a while but crept back up. I only
have the Works Addin now.

Any ideas?

Are you starting Word from the Works Task Launcher? If not, you absolutely
want to ditch the Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for Word, which causes
innumerable problems in Word run freestanding. Uninstall the add-in using
Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs.

Thanks for your help. I was afraid of that. Problem is the templates in Word
itself have the smell of the 70s about them. The Works add-in gives you acces
visa Word to the Works templates. Maybe if I delete the add-in I can still
get use Works to write Word letters. I'll try it. As we say in England,
you're a brick

If you want the Works templates and functionality, then start Word from
within Works, and this should avoid some of the problems.
