how to set pasted text to match destination formatting by default?

In word 2003 the pasted text retains the source formatting and style.
I can't set the default paste option to be the pasted text to match the
destination formatting because the Paste Options Button is not available when
I paste text.
The the checkbox in ToolsoptionsEditcut&pasteshow paste options buttons
is enabled.
