Default My Word document contains a bracket sign that I cannot delete.

Barbara:

Do you mean you're seeing unexpected pairs of square, gray brackets in your
document? Those may be bookmarks. The bookmarks are normally hidden. You can
show or hide them using Tools Options View and checking or clearing the
Bookmarks check box.

If you really want the bookmarks GONE, not just hidden, you can click Insert
Bookmarks, then select the offensive bookmark and click Delete. Be careful,

though, Word uses bookmarks for TOC and x-ref purposes. So don't blow up
anything important!
