How do you switch from one column to the next column in MSWord, type some
words and then switch back to column 1 or go to column 3, type some words and
then switch back to column 1?

Word requires the use of a two column table (unbordered) for this sort of
columnar text. Don't use one row across several pages. Break up the table
appropriately.
