Word 2003: I have a short document with a number of pictures. The first group
of pictures are all in a row and are all the exact same size. When I give the first one a caption, it correctly numbers it Figure 1. However, when I number the next one, it numbers that one Figure 1 and changes the first one to Figure 2. What's my problem? |

![]() It seems Word "sees" the second caption as yr first. Just an idea: do you mean by "row" that you put them in a host table? If so, I was able to repeat yr problem by putting the caption for fig 1 in a cell below and the caption for fig 2 in the same cell as the picture. Word then regards caption 2 as the first of the doc and consequently renumbers it as #1. It may not be yr exact problem, but maybe it puts you into the right direction. Actually, they are just in a line on the page, not a table.
There are five small pictures across and no matter which order I caption them, the one on the right is always #1 and they then sequence from right to left. If the figures are *not* "In line with text" (Format | object, Layout
tab), the captions will be placed in text boxes, and the numbering depends on the location of the text box anchors. To display anchors, use the View tab of Tools | Options. Now, make sure that the anchors are not in the same paragraph, and that the one which should be numbered "1" is in a paragraph located earlier in the document. (You can use drag and drop to move anchors.) See http://word.mvps.org/faqs/drwgrphcs/anchors.htm. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Geoff" wrote in message ...
