In order to help me remember auto text inserts I some times use a hyphen
along with the letters...ie. "aaa" for AAA," aaa-" for abdomianl aortic aneurysm...either are used depending upon the context and the physician dictating. Another example "cad" for CAD and "cad-" for coronary artery disease. The auto text entry always works with and without the hyphen, however sometimes the hypen disappears and other times it remains at the end of the phrase. This happens on the same page. I do not understand. I am a longtime WordPerfect user and it always works correctly there so I do not understand why the hyphen does not always disappear in MS Word. Am I doing something wrong or can I do something to correct this problem? Thank you, -- manny sue |

![]() The simple solution for this would be not to put the hyphen at the end of the autotext entry |

I suspect you mean autocorrect rather than autotext?
The problem you are encountering relates to the fact that autocorrect will use the hyphen as a trigger to insert the entry. The issue is essentially similar to that covered at http://www.gmayor.com/avoiding_unwan...talization.htm You should be able to get round it quite simply by putting the hyphen at the start of your trigger characters eg -aaa or -cad. Personally I would use a character that is not likely to be used in the normal course of typing your document - thus #aaa or #cad The abilities of Word Perfect have no relevance to those of Word. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org manny sue wrote: In order to help me remember auto text inserts I some times use a hyphen along with the letters...ie. Yes I did mean auto correct.
Thank you very much. I did not realize that trigger could also be at the beginning. I have not tried it yet but I do appreciate your help. -- manny sue "Graham Mayor" wrote: I suspect you mean autocorrect rather than autotext?
