Our organization is converting to Vista, but only some users have machines
running with Vista and the rest have older versions of the apps. Is there a default they can set to have Word/Excel, etc save as an the older version without having to remember to do "Save As" and choosing the previous version option? |

Vista is the operating system, not an application. Do you mean some of you
are getting Office 2007? -- JoAnn Paules MVP Microsoft [Publisher] ~~~~~ How to ask a question http://support.microsoft.com/KB/555375 "KDG" wrote in message ... Yes, Vista is the OS, but those apps running under Vista, when docs are
saved, save them in a format that will only view on Vista unless saved as the "97-2003" format, unless I'm mistaken? To do this you have to remember to "Save As" with each save. Is there any default to have this happen automatically until we get more people up on vista? "JoAnn Paules" wrote: Vista is the operating system, not an application. Yes. I'm doing this from memory so the terms may not be exact. Click on the
Office button and select Word options. There is a setting in there that makes Word 2007 default to the older version. -- JoAnn Paules MVP Microsoft [Publisher] ~~~~~ How to ask a question http://support.microsoft.com/KB/555375 "KDG" wrote in message news ![]() Yes, Vista is the OS, but those apps running under Vista, when docs are saved, save them in a format that will only view on Vista unless saved as the "97-2003" format, unless I'm mistaken? Any app that will run under XP will run under Vista, so the OS is
irrelevant. The point JoAnn was making is that the issue here arises from the fact that you're using Office 2007 (which will also run on XP) and not an older version. You can choose the 97-2003 version as the default. In Office Button | Word Options, look for options wrt saving. -- Suzanne S. In Word 2007, click on Office Button | Word Options | Save | Save files
in this format: Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc) | OK. There are similar options in Excel 2007 and in Powerpoint 2007. Or you could download the Office 2007 compatibility pack
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/pr...686761033.aspx and all use the same new format (though you may still have a p[roblem with document files sent outside the organisation. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Suzanne S.
