Word 2000 and 2003
Very strange - a document from my laptop or desktop PC red underlines misspelled words but my wife's PC does not. All three computers have Options/Spelling & Grammar tab shows that Check spelling as you type is still ticked and the CUSTOM.DIC is selected. Take a Word doc from the PC where spelling DOES NOT work and put it on one where spelling DOES work and it DOES NOT for that document! Take a Word doc from the PC where spelling DOES work and put it on one where spelling DOES NOT work and it DOES for that document! It seems that the facility for seeing misspelled words and for right clicking on a misspelled word to choose the correction, is imbedded in the document itself. So, is it something to do with the Normal template which produces the document on each computer? (I find it hit and miss whether or not I can find where the Normal template is spirited away by Microsoft - as a second problem, please tell me how to find it in any PC, wherever someone might have put it) Thank you Francis Hookham |

Thanks to both Bob and Tom
The settings in both Language and in Options/Spelling & Grammar tab are the same in both douments, one where errors show and one where the errors do not show. So I am still mystified. Any other suggestions - Normal template? If so where in it. Francis "CyberTaz" wrote in message .. . Thanks for taking an interest Terry -
It is bizar 1 My desktop Office 2000 2 Wife's desktop Office 2000 3 My laptop Office 2000 4 Mac Office 2004 Original problem doc probably came for 2 Second test doc from 1 Both docs perform as expected on all computers, that is, one spells and the other does not. Computer 2 seems to be the problem: Save As… the 'good' doc, including text, as a template (accessible on desktop) and documents from double clicking the template are ok, but only while the old text is left there. Delete the text and misspells do not show! Undo back to the original text and misspells, even new ones, show!! If Microsoft's filing system was not so complicated I would delete the Normal template but I have never found it except by chance sometimes in the past – never when I want it! Bizarre! Any suggestions, apart from reinstalling Office or just Word? Pro temp I have made up a template on 1 and put it on 2 where it seems to work as it should. Francis "Terry Farrell" wrote in message ... Aplogies Brian - my last should have gone to Terry.
In answer to your question, no, I have not checked the Windows control panel. I have much less Windows experience compared with Mac OS. Please tell me where to go. Many thanks for your interest.
