I am writing an instruction manual and would like to insert page numbers
within the text of the document- mainly as notes for the reader to refer to certain pages for instructions on how to do something being discussed on the current page. Is it possible to insert page numbers that will automatically update as I edit the document? I am using word 2003. |

If you want to insert the number of the current page, you can insert a PAGE
field anywhere on the page, but I think what you are asking for is a PAGEREF field, which is a cross-reference to material on another page. To use this, you will first need to bookmark the material on the other page (unless it is a heading, numbered item, or caption; these have built-in bookmarks). Use Insert | Reference | Cross-reference to Page number of Bookmark to insert the PAGEREF field. -- Suzanne S. You can refer to existing headings without any further preparation. If the spot you want to refer to isn't a heading, put a bookmark there. One of the dropdowns in the dialog lets you change the appearance of the reference, and one of the choices there is the page number of the thing you refer to. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. |
