Default User Options under Tools

Why do I have to keep re-setting my user options under Tools. Ex. - I use
metric but everytime I open Word, it goes back to 'inches'. Also the 'style
area' does not stay to what I set it. Any suggestions to make these settings
permanent?

Default User Options under Tools

Options that don't stay set generally indicate corrupted registry entries. I
would try deleting or renaming the Data key, as described here (don't let
the title of the article put you off):
