Hi, I am trying to enable Macros in Word 07 from a 2003 document. I have
changed the settings in the Trust Centre to enable macros, but it still doesn't work. The document is from a trusted source, and is saved in my trusted locations. I don't have administrator privileges on my PC. I have been reading that I can only enable macros in the group settings - is this correct? Any help appreciated, I am not very familiar with working with macros. Thanks, Rebecca |

If it is saved in your trusted locations then the macros should be enabled.
Are you encountering a message that they are disabled? Also, the group policy information is not correct. You should be able to enable macros. Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Thanks for your reply. I am not encountering any message when I open the
document regarding macros, but I have checked it in the previous version of word and it is fine. You shouldn't be encountering a message to enable them if the
document/template is in a trusted location. On the Developer tab, click Macros. Do you see the macros you are looking for listed? If you don't see the Developer tab, click the Office Button, click Word Options, and in the Popular section, select "Show Developer tab in the Ribbon". Thanks, I have the developer tab, but when I click on the Macros button it
doesn't show any in the document. Do I need to open the document in word 2003 again and save it differently or something? I have checked again, and the macros run fine in 2003. Are you sure that the macros were actually saved in the document and not in
a template (by default the Word 2003 normal.dot template)? If they are in the template you could use the Organizer (ALT+F8 Organizer) to move the macro project containing the macros from the template that contains them to the normal template in Word 2007. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org rebecca wrote: Thanks, I have the developer tab, but when I click on the Macros button it doesn't show any in the document. Thanks Graham. This is all going over my head a little though I'm afraid.
I've tried export the .bas file from the original template, and importing it into the new template, but I get an error "1022". I've tried just copying it over in the organiser but it doesn't seem to do anything. All I want to do is insert a macro that will insert a checked or unchecked box when I click on it, would I be better of just starting from scrath in the 07 version of the document? Thanks for your help, I think I have got round it. Instead of trying to
import the macros into the document, I opened the original template (which was a fax wizard), deleted everything in it and then copied and pasted the document I wanted in, and saved it, and the macro works in Word 2003 and 2007. I don't really understand why, but it works which is the main thing! Thanks again "rebecca" wrote: Thanks Graham. This is all going over my head a little though I'm afraid. I'm glad to hear you have it worked out. Like Graham, I was wondering if the
macros were actually stored in a template and not the document itself. The reason why it's working now is the macros were stored in the original template. When you create a document based on a template it maintains a link to the document template. One of the reasons for the link is so macros stored in the template can be used in the documents. That way each document doesn't have its own set of macros and it can remain macro-free so it doesn't trigger macro warnings if sent to someone else. Should you ever encounter something similar and don't know where to find the template, on the Developer tab click the Document Template button and you'll find it at the top of the dialog box. Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup.
