Default How do I use a field to be answered in a protected document

I would like to have a document that others can print but cannot make changes
to, except for entering an 8 digit number that will change every time they
will print it. How do I go about doing this?

If you allow others to see your document then ultimately they will be able
to edit it. You can merely make editing less straightforward.
A field that will be updated with a number every time the document is
printed will require a macro. There is no way that you can force any user to
use macros so the chances are that the number will not be incremented.
Given the above some better idea of what you are trying to achieve and what
compromises you are able to accept would help in making suggestions.
