I had the same problem and after much searching discovered that
the virus scan didn't come from NAV, but from Windows Defender.
If you have WD (look in C:\Program Files), then run this command
from Start Run:

regsvr32 /u "c:\program files\windows defender\mpoav.dll" (do a
copy/paste to avoid typing errors).

By the way, don't turn off Auto Protect in NAV, just disable the
Office Plugin by going to Options Other Miscellaneous
deselect Enable Office Plugin. You didn't mention which NAV you
have, but in NAV 2005 that is how to get to it.
