I'm trying to implement Word 2007 in my small company. I want to set it up so
that everyone has the same styles, so that all of our correspondence and documents match one another. Needless to say, this is NOT the default style set that Word 2007 uses. What is the best way to change and enforce the default styles in Word 2007, across my company? I have tried to find this information in the Resource Kit, and have been unable to locate it. -- Andrew Oliner |

What I'd like to do is change and standardize the DEFAULT styles, not create
templates which only give the correct styles if you create a document from the template. I'd like Word to have my correct corporate styles when it starts up. -- Andrew Oliner "Suzanne S. The only way to do this is to modify Normal.dot, and that is *not* the way
it is intended to be used. -- Suzanne S. Barnhill Microsoft MVP (Word) Words into Type Fairhope, Alabama USA "Andrew Oliner" wrote in message ... Technically, since he's talking about Word 2007, that would be Normal.dotm.
Another alternative that fits more into the scheme of how Word is intended to be used to to create a new Style Set, and then make that the default. This leaves Word 2007's default style set available for use should the need arise. For more on how to do this, press F1 in Word 2007, type "style set", and press Enter. -- Herb Tyson MS MVP Author of the Word 2007 Bible Blog: http://word2007bible.herbtyson.com Web: http://www.herbtyson.com "Suzanne S. Herb,
Thanks! That sounds like exactly what I want to do! That's where the rub comes in. You would have to distribute your copy of
Normal.dotm. But if you want to preserve it just as you set it up, you have to make it read-only, and that is not the way the Normal template was intended to be used. It's supposed to be customizable (to the extent that you *can* customize it in Word 2007) by each individual user. See "You cannot share the Normal.dot file among multiple users in Word" http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=811468 (which doesn't address exactly this situation but backs up my assertions). -- Suzanne S. A style set can be a Word 2007 dotx file. You could then distribute the dotx
file to users on login via Quick Styles folder, but it will need to be selected as the Default Style set in Normal.dotm (if you do it this way) for all new documents based on this template (Normal.dotm). Hope this helps. www.docsliveonline.com "Herb Tyson [MVP]" wrote in message ... Technically, since he's talking about Word 2007, that would be Normal.dotm.
