Default Sorting References?

Make sure that each reference is a single paragraph--no paragraph breaks in
the middle of the reference.

Can someone please tell me how to sort out a list of references in
alphabetical order if the reference is more than one line ?
ie: Yudkowsky BK, Fleming GV. Preventive health care for Medicaid
children.
Health Care Financ Rev. 1990 Dec;Spec No:89-96.PMID: 10113501 [PubMed -
indexed for MEDLINE]

Every time I try, word sorts each line so that the reference is broken
into
alphabetical order
ie:
and utilization of health care by children on fee-for-service Medicaid. J
Urban Health. 1999 Sep;76(3):322-34. PMID: 12607899 [PubMed - indexed for
MEDLINE]
Joffe GP, Rodewald LE, Herbert T, Barth R, Szilagyi PG.Scattering of
primary
ca doctor switching
Yudkowsky BK, Fleming GV. Preventive health care for Medicaid children.
Health Care Financ Rev. 1990 Dec;Spec No:89-96.PMID: 10113501 [PubMed -
indexed for MEDLINE]
Thanks!
