I'm using Word 2003 on a large document with a Header that must contain Page
x of xx consecutively on each page. Footers, on the other hand are the problem. The first section uses Roman numerals for pagination (i, ii, iii, etc.). The next portion uses arabic numerals [numbers] (1, 2, 3, etc.) and the final section contains the Appendices which must be shown as A-1, B-5, C-11, etc. I cannot figure out how to "mix modes" on the pagination without losing the consecutive pagination in the header. Even with individual section breaks and customization therein, I still cannot show a Roman number page number in a footer and still maintain pagination. Any thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated. Due to time urgency of this request, recommendations are requested to come to my home email (too) which is . In advance, THANKS!! Jeff |

Are you saying that you want the headers to display continuous page
numbering through-out the document, while the footers restart based on sections? -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Henn9660" wrote in message ... As you have described you require section breaks to enable the Headers and
Footers to do what you require. The Header page numbering in section 2 and beyond must remain setup as "continue from previous section". For the Footer, you need to (before changing the text) click the Same as Previous (or Link to Previous) button on the Header and Footer toolbar for each section change. This will disconnect each footer for from the previous and now changes can be made in each for the required numbering. This step is not needed in the Headers as these are not being separated. Now the numbering can be setup with Restart numbering and format as required. For a very good and simple guide on how to acheive what you want, and more tips, see Ms Barnhill's webpage: http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/HeaderFooter.htm as well as: http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting...rontMatter.htm on how to set up a document with front matter numbered separately. Hope this helps DeanH "Henn9660" wrote: I'm using Word 2003 on a large document with a Header that must contain Page x of xx consecutively on each page. Footers, on the other hand are the problem. Yes to the headers throughout document (consecutively numbered pages) whereas
the footers would begin as page "i, ii, iii" etc, then shirt to "1, 2, 3" for the body, and end with the appendices shown as "A-1, A-2, A-3" etc. Thanks, Jeff "Stefan Blom" wrote: Are you saying that you want the headers to display continuous page numbering through-out the document, while the footers restart based on sections? -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Henn9660" wrote in message ... Unfortunately, Dean, this will not work. Format Page Number, regardless of
where accessed, applies to the entire section, not a specific header or footer, so it is not possible to restart numbering in the footer and have it continuous in the header. -- Suzanne S. Thanks for that Suzanne (Happy New Year to you and yours).
I was not totally sure and had not had time to test. Hopefully your webpage may assist Henn9660 to a work around. All the best DeanH "Suzanne S. Dean, I tried performing the steps listed, but still come up with issues.
Thank goodness I kept extra play-copies! LOL. When I took the steps and then changed the footer on the main-body's Page 1, the "PAGE XX of XX" in the HEADER also reverts back to page 1, when in reality, it's the 8th page of the document. Hi Henn966,
Here's a way to get what you're after: 1. Insert your footer page #s with the formatting you require. 2. In Section 1: . insert the header page # fields coded as Page {PAGE \# 0} of {NUMPAGES}. . create a field in the header coded as {SET S1Pages {SECTIONPAGES}} 3. In Section 2: . create a field in the header coded as {=S1Pages+{PAGE \# 0}}. . create a field in the header coded as {SET S2Pages {SECTIONPAGES}} 4. In Section 3: . create a field in the header coded as {=S1Pages+S2pages+{PAGE \# 0}}. Note: The field brace pairs (ie '{ }') for the above field codes are created via Ctrl-F9 - you can't simply type them or copy & paste them from this message. -- Cheers macropod [MVP - Microsoft Word] "Henn9660" wrote in message ... Good Afternoon! First of all, thanks for the advice. I was able to
accomplish, via a small amount of manual manipulation, the desired outcome. The compromise I had to make was manually entering Roman numeral page numbers on pages ii through vii. Using the instructions you provided, I was able to facilitate the remainder of the document's pagination PERFECTLY. Again, thanks a million.
