When correcting text, the following text is "eaten-up" - why?

Thanks to you all for being so understanding - we all do it though ! (especially my husband!) We think because we understand what we are saying, everyone else will. (Don't beat yourself up Fred - if it hadnt been so late at night, I might have picked up on it quicker!) Anyway, won't happen again - have written myself a 10 page instruction manual on what to do next time ;-) Rosie "Idaho Word Man" wrote: I still need to make sure I use words precisely all the time. Sometimes I see an "easy" question, like this one, and I dash off a hasty response without thinking about it carefully. I know the answer, and to me it's an "easy" answer, so I assume that if I say what's in my head at the moment, the original poster will be able to read my mind. I knew what I meant by "Insert button," but Rosie didn't know what I meant. She had to hunt to find it. I could have been (should have been) more helpful in my reply. Penitent Fred "Suzanne S. Barnhill Microsoft MVP (Word) Words into Type Fairhope, Alabama USA http://word.mvps.org "Idaho Word Man" wrote in message ... You'd think that after this many years I would have learned to use words more precisely. Of course I should have said "key" instead of "button." But hey -- I knew what I meant. Isn't that enough? I will write "I will use words more gooder" on the board 100 times as my penance. Fred "Suzanne S. Barnhill" wrote: Obviously the important lesson here is the difference between "key" (on the keyboard) and "button" (on a toolbar). Some people do use "button" to refer to keyboard keys, but this is not correct and is just confusing. -- Suzanne S. Barnhill Microsoft MVP (Word) Words into Type Fairhope, Alabama USA http://word.mvps.org "Rosie from Sussex" wrote in message ... Thanks Fred and Herb for your help. The problem was really that I didnt know where the insert key was. And when I went into Help there was nothing there that mentioned the insert key! However, late last night I found the Ins button on my keyboard (I had been looking on the toolbar on screen) and problem now solved! Thanks for your time and patience (My excuse is that I am old!!) Rosie "Herb Tyson [MVP]" wrote: You're in Overtype mode. This [usually] can be toggled on/off using the Insert key. -- Herb Tyson MS MVP Author of the Word 2007 Bible Blog: http://word2007bible.herbtyson.com Web: http://www.herbtyson.com "Rosie from Sussex" wrote in message ... I am trying to correct some text I have typed. As I do so, the following letters are "eaten up" and disappear. It is happening in every new document. Can someone help please. |
