The behavior of the FILENAME field has changed in recent versions of Word.
You can use a macro to force an update of the field. For more, see the Knowledge Base article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832897/en-us ("The FILENAME field does not automatically update when you open a document in Word"). Note that if you don't want to use macros, you can force an update of the field by switching to Print Preview and then back to your favorite view. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Irmgard Jacob" wrote in message .. . I have noticed that sometimes when I file a document with another name, the file name in the footer automatically updates itself. At other times this doe snot happen. How can I set it so that the file name in the footer updates automatically eveyr time I save the document with another name. Thank you so much.
