Default Works 9 Word Processor Opening Older files

It may be that by installing the Office trial you have screwed up the
original Word component (Probably Word 2002) of the Works suite. That being
the case, re-install the Word component from the Works suite installation
disc.

Hi Graham

Many thanks for your reply.

The Works Suite was already installed on the pc, it also came with
Office Trial version which is now out of date and I have uninstalled
it, although I did use it.

I am trying to open the document in Works Word Processor.

I am not sure what the Word component is sorry.

I have checked other doucments from about the same period and they
open although any with tables are not so good.

The document that is giving me problems has at least 7 versions and I
cannot open any. *The original doument is dated 2002 and I will have
copied and saved changing it's name each year using each version of
Word or Works I had at that time.

Now I know that all my other older doucments are OK and it is just
this one (I think) it will not be the end of the world if I can't
open it but it would be extrememly nice to have it back.

Thank you

Did you install the Word component of Works Suite or are you trying
to open the file in the Works word processor? Word should be able to
open all versions of its files (though it would need the
compatibility pack to open Word 2007 files) albeit with the proviso
athttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/922849which I suspect is not
relevant here. An inability to open a document that Word should be
able to open suggests there may be document corruption involved. If
you are able to send me one of your documents that you cannot open,
I *may* be able to verify the validity of the document and the
ability of Works to open it. Use the link on the home page of my web
site.

Hi

I have Vista Home Premium and Works 9 Suite

I am unable to open older Word documents in Works 9, I believe they
are Word 2003 files.

Message says

'there is not enough memory to open file'

This is a new pc and has more than enough memory to open an 88kb
document so it must be a conversion problem but what and how I
resolve it is a mystery to me.

I have tried opening in Wordpad and Notepad and although I can see
some words that are in the document it is not readable.

Any suggestions please?

.

Hi Graham

Yes, I think you are right, that is what I need to do.

Will let you know.
