Which version of Word are you using? If you are not using Word 2007, you may
not be able to open *.docx files (unless you've installed the compatibility
pack).

Also, note that files sometimes corrupt when sent as attachments. Just in
case, you could ask the sender to send the file in a *.zip (compressed)
format.
