I have a legit Standard Word 2007 installed in 3 PC's.
Now, when I open WORD, I get a notice : File conversion-~$nereader6.sprint.dot Select the encoding that makes your document readable. I just opened word, nothing loaded. I click OK Now I get: CAUTION; the add-in template is not valid C:\users\.......\~$nereader6.sprint.dot I press OK and word works just fine. Obviously this is NOT a problem and just an annoyance. Second identical PC works fine, laptop works fine. Any suggestions??? |

Where you need to look for it is in the Word or Office Startup folder. And
you may need to make sure that you have "Hidden and system files and folders" displayed in order to see it. What the file is is an "owner file" left over after the deletion of the Finereader6.sprint.dot template installed (presumably) by a version of ABBYY FineReader that doesn't work with Word 2007. -- Suzanne S. From the file name, it's an add-in for ABBYY FineReader. If you go to
the Add/Remove Programs dialog of the Windows Control Panel and select FineReader, does it give you a Change button? And if so, does it give you the option of removing features, one of which might be Word integration? If so, that should remove the add-in. If that solves the problem, you could then try re-adding the feature to see if you can get it to work. Another possibility is that your version of FineReader is meant only for Word 2003 and earlier (a Word 2007 version would have a .dotm extension). Check the ABBYY web site for an update. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. As others have indicated this is an add-in for Finereader 6, which is an
older version and probably not compatible with Word 2007. In any case Finereader can be used quite happily as a stand alone product without the need for add-ins. You cannot remove the add-in from the Templates and Addins dialog. You must physically remove the file from the folder in which it is located, while Word is closed. It should be in the Word startup folder which you can access by typing- %appdata%\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP in the address window of your Windows Explorer or browser, but from the path quoted in your original message it will be somewhere in the tree below C:\Users - so search there for it. It also seems that there is a reference to the template's lock file, which will be a *hidden* file in the same folder, - ~$nereader6.sprint.dot That file must be removed also. In fact that file is the cause of the problem - see http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org "Gerhard" wrote in message ... It was in fact file installed by HP for my printer. I uninstalled everything
associated with the HP printer, inserted the printer disk and reinstalled what is on the disk (including all the spam and assorted other garbage). Everything now works fine. Many thanks to the people that provided input and put me on the horrible way to VISTA happiness. "Gerhard" wrote: I have a legit Standard Word 2007 installed in 3 PC's.
