Well, I'll keep trying; mail-merge isn't my strong point, but I already have
a mail-merge I used to create the separate lables we used previously and manually attached to the backs of the buttons. I'll probably be back! Regards, Twayne` In , Suzanne S. Barnhill typed: If you use the directions at http://www.gmayor.com/graphics_on_labels.htm to insert your image Behind Text in each label and then place your merge field centered horizontally and vertically in the cell, it should work. It's just a matter of generating the numbers in Excel as a data source. If you need further help setting up a label merge, see http://www.gmayor.com/mail_merge_lab...th_word_xp.htm "Twayne" wrote in message ... In , Suzanne S. Barnhill typed: For this application I'd suggest mail merge. Create an Excel data source containing the numbers and then create a "label" document with the nine images and text boxes containing the merge field. Complete the merge to get however many sheets of labels you need. If you need to restart numbering for additional sets, this is pretty easy to do in Excel as well. But also see http://www.gmayor.com/Numbered_labels.htm. Actually, I suspect that a mail merge might work better with the merge field NOT in a text box. It's not that much trouble to format the image as Behind Text one at a time for nine cells, but also see http://www.gmayor.com/graphics_on_labels.htm I agree, for 9 cells it's no problem at all. But as I said, that's just my practice sheet; the final project has 10,000+ serialized buttons! That's a tad bit more work :-). I think merge-field has a good chance of working if only I can get all the cells formatted properly but I can't seem to, in Word, Excel, Writer or Calc. I thought maybe Copy/paste Format might be the ticket, but I can't seem to get it to work. Thanks for any further thoughts/ideas you or anyone else might have. I have until the shipment of labels arrives to figure something out; then I'll have to start the print runs. They're due Tuesday AM so at least I have the weekend to fiddle with it. Regards, Twayne` "Twayne" wrote in message ... In , Suzanne S. Barnhill typed: You can either have the image Behind Text, or you can add text boxes (No Line, No Fill) on top of the images. Put SEQ fields in the text boxes. I tried putting the image behind the text and it works on a one-cell at a time basis, but ... I couldn't find a way to format the whole table that way all at once. As soon as I select multiple cells, I no longer have th Layout tab to put the image behind the text. That's using format; picture; and the Layout tab. Format Picture just doesn't seem to be available with multi-cell selections. Is there a better way I haven't tought of? Historically when I have probles with things lke this it'll be something pretty basic I miss out on, if that helps any. I didn't try very hard with text boxes & SEQ fields because I ran into the same problem as above: As soon as I select multiple cells, the Layout tab disappears and the output jumps over to beside the image again. I'll go back and do some more looking around there. Any chance you could clarify this further? I'm doing my experiments with only 9 cells but the final product is going to ba 10,000 cells, or perhaps some subets of them that will total 10k. Regards, Twayne` "Twayne" wrote in message ... HI all, XP Pro SP3 + updates, Office 2002. And crossposted to longdocs, numbering and pagelayout: My "great idea" sort of fizzled on meg! I'm creating buttons to sell for our Labor Day Parade this year. NOrmally I also print a list of serialized labels to be attached to the backs of the buttons, but that's a bit of labor it seems like we should be able to avoid. So instead, what I'd like to do is put the serialized number into a Table Cell, displayed on top of the image. The serialized buttons are used for drawings, etc., during the celebrations. Unfortunately, although it's fairly trivial to create serialized numbers for each table cell, getting it to live on top of the graphic is something i can't seem to do. One always displaces the other since one is text and the other graphic. At 6 button artworks per Letter Size sheet and a requirement for 10,000 buttons, you can see why I don't want to do it manuallyG! Does anyone have any idea how I could get an incrementing number to display on top of the image in each cell? I've also considered some way to convert the text numbers to an image format after they were created, but I can't seem to do that programmatically either. And the committee would rather not see the number beside or over/under the image because it's round in shape and decreases the real estate available for the image on the button. Any leads, thoughts or methods would be most appreciated, Twayne |
