Default How do you disable/remove the Research Task Pane?

Forcing the Alt-Click is really terrible... it prevents Alt-Selection from
working on a single character!!!! How do you remove the feature - please for
the love of god help us on this.

I don't think you'll get any argument on this from any Word user, and the
Word dev team has heard this loud and clear. I think you can expect to see a
behavior change in Office 12.

I (and others) agree with you that it's a PITA. However, if you first hold down
the mouse button and THEN hold down ALT, it should work.

I also find that if I press Alt and then the mouse button I'm okay as long
as I keep it depressed; it doesn't register as a "click" till you release
it. I did have more trouble than usual with this the other day--thank
goodness I was already online when this happened or Word would have started
trying to phone home, which I find *extremely* maddening (I'm on dial-up).

This issue has bothered me for years, but I finally found out the answer.

From Word, press Alt-F11 to open the VB Editor.

Press Ctrl-G to open the Immediate Window.

Type this line and press Enter:

Application.CommandBars("Research").Enabled = False
