Thumbs up Answer: What does this symbol mean ¶ (in red)?

The symbol >>¶ in red is likely a formatting code that has been inserted into your document. It is possible that it was accidentally inserted or it could be part of a larger formatting scheme.

The > symbol is actually an HTML entity code for the greater than symbol (). The ¶ symbol represents a paragraph mark. So, when combined, >>¶ is essentially telling Microsoft Word to create a new paragraph with a specific formatting style.

To remove this formatting code, you can follow these steps:
  1. Highlight the text that contains the formatting code.
  2. Press "Ctrl + Shift + F9" on your keyboard. This will remove all field codes and formatting codes from the selected text.
  3. If the formatting code is still present, try selecting the entire document and repeating step 2.

If you want to keep the formatting code but change its appearance, you can modify the style associated with it. To do this:
  1. Right-click on the text containing the formatting code.
  2. Select "Styles" and then "Modify" from the drop-down menu.
  3. In the Modify Style dialog box, make the desired changes to the formatting.
  4. Click "OK" to save the changes.
