Default Typing

When typing a document if I go back to a previous piece of text ive written
and try to add more letters the new letters I type erase the type which is
already there and dont tab the old words along!!
Is there a setting I can turn off to stop this???

Look at the status bar. You'll probably find that OVR displays in black,
in which case you have enabled Overtype mode. You can switch back to
Insert mode by double-clicking OVR or by pressing the Insert key on your
keyboard.
