CD Key
I recently reinstalled Windows XP and am now attempting to reinstall Word.
The reinstallation was a success, except for one hitch: it's asking me for a CD key and I can't find one anywhere. The installation disks came in white paper holders, not jewel cases (which is where Word suggests to look for the CD key). I tried the 25-character compilation of numbers and letters on the side of my computer (I can't, for the life of me, remember what it's called), but, as I expected, that didn't work. Anyone got ideas? Thanks in advance. |

If you have Word 2000 or later still installed, download, install and run
the free Belarc Advisor. It will give you the Key. http://www.belarc.com "Carter" wrote in message ... I recently reinstalled Windows XP and am now attempting to reinstall Word. It appears you have an OEM version of Word (that is, it came
preinstalled on your computer by the computer manufacturer), so the CD key could be on a Certificate of Authenticity in the paperwork that came with the computer. If you can't find it, see http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823570 "How to obtain a new product key for Office program setup". You may be charged a small fee for the new product key. No it won't!
If Windows has been re-installed, there is nothing for Belarc to find in the registry. Word has to be installed first and you can't do that without the key. I am also 99% sure that it won't work with Word 2000 even if it is installed. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Chuck Davis wrote: If you have Word 2000 or later still installed, download, install and run the free Belarc Advisor.
