Default "average" symbol

I'm using Office 2003, Professional. I need the "average" symbol - an x with
a bar above it. In general, more math and science related symbols would be
nice.

Use an EQ field: { eq \o (x, ¯) }. Or download a maths and science symbol
font. (Google will more than happy to help ...)

An alternative field coding is:
{EQ \s\up6(\f(,X))}
This has the advantage of not increasing the line spacing, plus you can
control the exact height of the horizontal bar (by changing the 6).

Cheers
