Default MERGEFIELD switch

I want the MS Word to display the number format as 1,23,45,678.00, when I
mail merge it from Excel some numeric values. I want MERGEFIELD switch for
this.

Please help me.

Are you sure you don't want 12,345,678.00 - which would easily be arranged
with \# ",0.00" ?

If you want the unusual separation that you have shown, then this is far
more complicated and we would need to know the range of numbers that you
plan to use to provide a solution. If there are always 8 digits you could
use \# "0','00','00','000.00" but that won't work for less than 8 digits.

As an alternative, from the Tools menu in Word, select Options and then go
to the General tab and check the box against the "Confirm conversions at
open" item. (In Word 2007 it is Office Button Word Options Advanced
General Confirm file format conversion on open). Then when you attach the
data source to the mail merge main document, you will be given the option of
using the DDE method of connection which should read the data as you have it
formatted in the table.
