Default Text erroneously flagged "do not check spelling or grammar"

I have Word 2002 and somehow it thinks that I do not want to check spelling
or grammar and am getting a message that says "Text marked with do not check
spelling or grammar has been skipped" message. I have not flagged any text
to be skipped and have double checked all the usual flags for turning on/off
spelling or grammar check.

As a result, it is not catching any spelling errors.

Please advise.

Ctrl+A to select the entire document, then go to Tools | Language | Set
Language and make sure the correct language is selected and "Do not check
spelling or grammar" is not checked.
