Default I'm missing half of my word docs

My files are stored on "d" drive. This morning, I noticied that only files
beginning with "a" through "f" are visible. Everything from "g" on is
missing. From recent documents I can open a "g" file and "save as", but it
still doesn't appear in the document list. However, if I add an "a" to the
beginning of the file, it is added to the list.....

Certainly appreciate any help on this....
