update a date field only once
I am trying insert a date field that will update once only and then convert to a non updatable text field. This is a merge document. There is a "date of notice" that needs to be inserted and then remain the same no matter how many times the document is subsequently opened.
I've tried inserting a CREATEDATE field, however, this prints the date the original document was created, not the date the merged document was created. Thank you. |

If you instead use a template and create a new document based on the
template, the CreateDate field will work fine for you. For more on the different kinds of templates, tabs on the file new dialog, and locations of templates folders see http://addbalance.com/usersguide/templates.htm. -- Charles Kenyon Word New User FAQ & Web Directory: http://addbalance.com/word Intermediate User's Guide to Microsoft Word (supplemented version of Microsoft's Legal Users' Guide) http://addbalance.com/usersguide See also the MVP FAQ: http://www.mvps.org/word which is awesome! --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- This message is posted to a newsgroup. Is there an easy way to convert my existing doc to a template?
Also, will the template document behave the same as the merge doc. We are running a pretty extensive macro to merge fields. Thanks again. Quote:
