Default Text Box Coloring (Lemeva)

For the cover design of my document, I've filled a text box with a two-color
gradient (0.78.156 to 86.131.198) and stretched the text box (11"H x .24"W)
to fit the height of the page. However, the paragraph area (i.e. where you
can type something) of the text box distorts the smooth flow of this color.
It's almost as if the text box takes the defined gradient and applies it to
two different regions of the text box: the background and the paragraph
area. Is there any way to smooth out these components as one two-color
gradient?

Any ideas on why this is happening?

Does it print the same way it looks on the screen? If it prints
okay but doesn't look okay, then it's probably just a graphics
display issue. If it prints incorrectly too, then the obvious
thing to try is to put the text in a separate text box with no
fill and no border, and then superimpose the second text box over
the first one containing the gradient.
