Have you activated your copy of Word? Check under the Help menu. If there is
a command there about "Activate" try it. If you have a version that doesn't
require activation there won't be such a command. If you have already
activated, it will tell you that. If you have a trial version, you need to
purchase the full version.

Well, you don't tell us what version it is or how it is "locked," but
perhaps one of the following will help you:

it is Microsoft word 2003 and when i try to type on a blank document it says
"the modification it is not allowed because the document is locked". there is
nothing under the help menu either that says anything about activation. I
dont understand why i would have to buy a new version either because all the
other microsoft programs such as Excel, Access, dont need to be renewed?

Are you having this problem with all documents or only a specific one? If
the latter, on the Tools menu, do you see Protect Document or Unprotect
Document?

Open your help menu and wait..............
You probably have "adaptive menus" turned on which means you are not seeing
all the commands. There should be an Activate Product command on that menu.
If waiting doesn't help, click on the arrow at the bottom of the menu.
