Default not able to open word files

Everytime I try to open a file, it says "documenthere.doc is not available".
It happens with everything, I've tried uninstalling word and reinstalling it
but no luck. How do I fix it? I'm on Office Student and Teacher Edition 2003.

If you are running Norton AntiVirus, disable its Office Plug-in.
