I have attempted to follow the tutorial on changing footers by section
breaks, but each time i change the section, it changes the entire document.
What am I doing wrong? ( In laymens terms please)

When you insert a section break, by default the footer of the section after
the break is "linked" to the footer of the section before the break. That
means whatever you place in the footer of one of those sections appears in
both sections' footers. (And the same for the headers.)

When the footer pane is open for editing, the Header & Footer Tools tab
appears on the ribbon. In the Navigation group of that tab is a button for
"Link To Previous". You need to put the cursor in the later section's footer
and click to turn off that button, and then you'll have the ability to put
different content in the sections' footers. (And the same for the headers.)

Going one step further, in the Options group of the Header & Footer Tools
ribbon there are check boxes for Different First Page and for Different Odd
& Even Pages. When these are checked, each option gives the current section
another independent header and footer. These extras are also, by default,
linked to the matching extras in the preceding section. So for example, if
you have two sections, both with Different First Page checked, and you want
the first-page footers to be different, you have to turn off the Link To
Previous button for the first-page footer _in addition to_ turning it off
for the main footer.

By default, headers and footers are linked from section to section. However,
when you double-click a H or F to edit one, the context H&F Ribbon becomes
active. One of the tools is to unlink from the Previous H&F. Then you can
create different H&Fs.

Pamwms, just to add to the previous posting, sometimes to get differences in
Header and Footers, sometimes you don't need a section break, check out the
use of a StyleRef Field (http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/StyleRef.htm) as
well as http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Format...atter_2007.htm for
details on how to have different Headers and Footers, etc. in one document.
