Problem printing envelopes
Word 2003 seems to have forgotten the size of #10 envelopes. When I use
Tools Letter and Mailings Envelopes and Labels to print an envelope, the output is shifted to the left, as if Word thought it was printing on regular letter-size paper. This causes the return address to be shifted off the envelope. It also casuses the main address to shift left, but this is of much less concern. I've made sure by clicking the "Options" button that envelope size 10 (4 1/8 x 9 1/2) is selected. The location adjustments for both delivery address and return address are set to "auto". I can force the return address to come out correctly by setting "from left" to 1.5 inches, but this doesn't stick, and I have to do it each time. I can't think of anything that's changed. My printer is an hp LJ1300, and it seems to be working just fine. Any ideas? |

Problem printing envelopes
The position of the text on envelopes is determined by the envelope address
and envelope return paragraph styles in the active template - see http://www.gmayor.com/changing_envelope_layout.htm or you could use the #10 automated envelope template samples you can download from my web site instead. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Holodeck wrote: Word 2003 seems to have forgotten the size of #10 envelopes. Problem printing envelopes
Thanks, that's very helpful and interesting info. Unfortunately ... my
problem seems to be something else, perhaps the printer driver, because I get the same behavior whether printing an envelope in Word 2003 or Wordperfect 9. The application sets "paper size/type" to #10 Envelope, but the printer behaves as if it's using Letter-size paper. As I followed the steps outlined on your website, and added the envelope to the doc (instead of just printing it), I could see that the layout on the screen is correct. There must be a setting someplace in the driver that's overriding the paper size, although hp claims that s/w application settings should take priority over driver settings. This is an hp LJ 1300, just in case you have any suggestions. And, FWIW, it does the same whether I use the PCL6 driver or the PS driver. Problem printing envelopes
HP makes great hardware but lousy software - see if there's an updated
driver at http://www.hp.com/pond/ljbeta/ -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Holodeck wrote: Thanks, that's very helpful and interesting info. And they're getting worse. Don't even think of getting started on the hpbpro / hpboid issue that seems to plague many hp printer users. There wasn't a new driver, but I finally just completely uninstalled the printer, its driver, and all of the related hp software, rebooted and then reinstalled from the original CD. Things are working again. Go figure. |
