Default Imbedding shortcuts

I expected to be able to copy a shortcut from my desktop to my
clipboard, open a Word document and paste the shortcut into it.

It seemed such a logical thing to do that I have gone ahead and written
a quite lengthy document with many of these imbedded shortcuts. The
document, by the way, describes the procedures I go through when making
software changes, with the intention that others would then be able to
follow my instructions, using the imbedded shortcuts to automatically
navigate to, or execute, various files/processes on the shared network.

Unfortunately it seems I have wasted my time. The shortcuts are
inactive/defective - completely useless. If I mouse-over them I
sometimes see an instruction to "Ctrl + click to follow link" - which
proves to be just another of those frustrating teases - and I simply
get an error dialogue to say the link cannot be followed. Thinking this
odd - because the shortcut worked fine from my desktop or wherever else
I had copied it to - I tried to copy it back from the Word document to
my desktop to see if it still ran OK from there. Then I got some
message about having to save a copy of the picture. Odd that - because
there is no picture involved.

Not really enjoying this I have to say. Please brighten up my day and
help me to see where I'm going wrong and what I should be doing
instead.

TIA,
Mike.

Mike: To see the actual link that was created, hit Alt+F9. That's about all
I can do to help.

Hope it helps!
