Extracting Emails from large Word file
I've been given a large word file that contains email addresses.
Is there any way to search for and extract these addresses? -- Message posted via http://www.officekb.com |

You can start with the assumption that every email address will include @.
So what you need to do is search for a continuous alphanumeric string with @ in it. This will involved wildcards; see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/UsingWildcards.htm The beauty part is that you can ask Word to select all the found items. On the Find tab of the Find and Replace dialog, click More, then check the box for "Highlight all items found." Find All. Then click outside the Find dialog (but not in the text) and Ctrl+C to copy all the found items. Paste into a new document. Each will paste as a separate paragraph. -- Suzanne S. Yes. Email addresses, assuming that they have been inserted as active addresses that if you click opens a New Mail message windows, have been inserted as Hyperlinks which is a Style in Word. You can use the Style Task Pane to select all Hyperlink styles, copy and paste them into say Excel or just another blank document if you wish. -- Terry Farrell - Word MVP http://word.mvps.org/ "Charles Cooper via OfficeKB.com" wrote in message ... : I've been given a large word file that contains email addresses. : : Is there any way to search for and extract these addresses? : : -- : Message posted via http://www.officekb.com |

Great alternative way to find them, especially if they aren't formatted as hyperlinks. Terry "Suzanne S. The "Highlight all" combined with your search for the Hyperlink style, would
be the easiest of all. -- Suzanne S.
