bookmark updates when i print preview with tracked changes
Hi- i have Word 2003. i have some field codes set up in a document and some
bookmarks that reference those field codes throughout the doc. when track changes is on, if i do a print preview, it tracks a change to some (but not all) of the bookmarks throughout the entire document. For example, i have a fillin field code asking for a customer name. any bookmark that references that field code shows a tracked deleteion and new insertion, but with the same info, i.e. "Customer" (insertion in blue text) and "Customer" (with strikethrough and red text denoting deletion). I didn't make any changes related to that field code, and yet it still makes a tracked change after a print preview. Moreover, if i accept the changes and do another print preview, they tracked mods come back again. Needless to say, it gets very frustrating and also makes for an unnecessarily messy document. Has anyone seen this issue before? any idea how i can keep it from happening? Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can lend! Rich |

In Tools -- Options -- Print, uncheck "Update fields". When you Print or
Print Preview, Word is "deleting" your field results and "inserting" new field results, which may be the same, but with tracking on, that is what will show. The other option of course is to turn off tracking before updating fields. I think fields will still update automatically when saving, otherwise you have to remember to press F9 before printing. I don't know of an an option like "do not track field changes." I have found that with "Update fields" and "Update bookmarks" on, print preview and print deletes all bookmarks and all page references and TOC results show as "Bookmark not defined". No idea why. bookmark updates when i print preview with tracked changes
Thanks for the post, sjnet, unfortunately, "update fields" is already
unchecked. i just upgraded to office 2003 on Monday, and this didn't use to happen (at least for me, i did notice it when others sent me word docs that they modified), so not sure what's goin on...i'll keep plugging away and try to figure it out, though if you have any other ideas, don't hesitate to suggest them (likewise with anyone else who has any ideas). Thanks again! "sjnet" wrote: In Tools -- Options -- Print, uncheck "Update fields".
