Default How to remove a path to load a file I've moved under the File menu

I opened the same Word file once from the desktop and once from a folder I
moved it to. Now I don't seem to be able to delete the old path for opening
the file on the desktop, which appears under the File menu along with the
correct path of the folder where the file is currently.
I'm using Office 2003 S&T version.
Thanks

It won't do any harm there except that if you click on it inadvertently, it
alarmingly tells you that it can't find the file. Eventually, as you open
other documents, that path will drop off the MRU list. But if you really
*need* to get rid of it right now, press Ctrl+Alt+Hyphen and click on it. Be
careful where you click: the "Terminator Hyphen" will delete *any* menu item
you click on.

Wow Suzanne - that's a smart trick. Yet another for my "Book of Tricks" As
a matter of interest (and I haven't done it!) if I deleted a menu item
inadvertently, how would I restore it? Would it be a matter of
re-intsalling Word or is there (for example) a Registry setting that I would
have to change?

Graham has supplied the answer you need. For more on how this can go awry,
see http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/LostSymbol.htm. Some other useful
tips:

1. Even if you press Alt+Ctrl+Hyphen inadvertently, you can dismiss it with
ESC.

2. The "Terminator Hyphen" functionality is "used up" after one application;
the mouse pointer resumes its normal shape and function.

3. This command is necessary for removing files from the Work Menu (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/WorkMenu.htm); a lot of users happily fill
up their Work Menu and then don't remember how to remove files.

4. Removing files from the File menu MRU list is also the only way to remove
them from the list in the Getting Started task pane.

Thank you. I had anticpated that this combination of keystrokes would be
available in Excel 2003 but it's not! I've posted a question in an Excel NG
but there's not been any response yet. I know that this is a Word NG but
does anyone know if something similar is available in Excel? Logic would
say that it should be, as it has no inherent or specific relvance to how
Word works so it could be generic across the MS Office series of software -
but I've come to realise that logic doesn't always apply :-(

I tried this in Excel, and there is no All Commands category in Tools |
Customize, but I didn't find a corresponding command in the Tools category,
and in fact you can't even remove files from the MRU list using Tools |
Customize. My general impression is that customization is not as
sophisticated in Excel (or any other Office app) as in Word.

Thank you. It seems so logical to have generic functions available to all
within the Office series of applications but I guess that MS haven't got
round to that. C'est la vie.

This actually is one of the goals for Office 12, I think, but ultimately
commands can't be made entirely consistent across the board because of the
varying nature and purpose of the applications.

A simpler way is to press Ctrl+Alt+Hyphen and click on the file you want to
remove from the menu.

and I'm sure you figured out that changing the (1) to another number
would delete that file from the list.

Have you finally convinced the nice people at Microsoft to include this
feature in Excel? If you have, can I send you my list of nifty Word features
that I'd also like them to put in Excel? g
