format painter gone wild
I love the format painter but recently it has been painting by itself. I get
various formats that I don't remember using earlier in the document. I'm really sorry I don't know whether this happened before on this computer; I just know it is happening now, and I've never encountered it before. I've scanned the whole computer a few times, dowloaded installed all critical MS updates & AV program software (MicroTrend PC-Cillin). thank you, Susan |

Hi Susan-
Maybe/maybe not the case, but Format Painter 'remembers' the last formatting copied, even from doc to doc. If you don't actually select text formatted as you want to copy and just click the button it will apply what it remembers. In other words, it doesn't just assume a certain array of attributes based on nothing more than where your insertion point is. Select text (at least one character) formatted in the way you want to have copied. Click Format Painter and apply to another bit of text. Does that still result in erratic behavior? I do copy the format from text that is as wanted. The only thing would be if
I somehow forgot to do that b/c of being distracted or something...which absolutely NEVER happens!!! what was I saying?
