Default Straight line drawn in a word document

I have a word document (office 2000) that has a horizontal line drawn in it
as a divider and I can't figure out how to get rid of it! It won't let me
just highlight and delete it. It seems to be imbedded in the document
somehow. Can anyone help?

It's a border. See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting...tRidOfLine.htm

Hi Mary,

The line may have been created by AutoFormat As You Type (type a hyphen
symbol 3 times and then press enter) so try clicking in front of the
horizontal line and pressing your delete key three times.
