Default text form field data displays on screen - blank when printed

I have a form that I complete and on the display you can see the data as
entered - it even shows up in print preview - as soon as you hit print though
the data disappears from a few fields. Any ideas? THanks.

Default text form field data displays on screen - blank when printed

Hello

I have a similar but yet different problem:
In 2 seprate surroundings using Windows XP and Word 2003 a form with
prefilled instructive text like "Fill in Additional information" that user
removes and writes his/her own text the prefilled text appears in the
hardcopy instead of the filled in text.

Works as if Bronco's blank field would be "prefilled" text that prints
instead of the filled.

Any hints? Anyone?

Thanks
Pirjo

Hi ?B?QnJvbmNvMjg=?=,

If you're using form fields, from the forms toolbar, then you have to make sure
the document is protected as a form. When you print the document the fields are
automatically updated, which tends to reset them to the default value.

Hi

Does this mean that what ever you write on a form you just get the blank
form as a hardcopy? I do hope I understood you wrong.

So to be sure I have it correct:
If the form is protected: should the filled in text be printed or do the
fields update and reset to default value even then?

When the form is NOT protected, and Word receives an "update fields"
command, form fields are re-set to their default setting. This is how the
forms functionality is designed.

As long as the document is protected, you can print all you want - the form
fields should retain their content.

If, for some reason, you've unprotected the form, then you'll lose the form
field content if "Update fields" is activated in Tools/Options/Print.

A way to get around this would be to LOCK the fields to prevent them from
updating. This is done by selecting a field, the pressing Ctrl+F11
(Ctrl+Shift+F11 unlocks a locked field). By pressing Ctrl+A, first, you can
set this for all fields in the document at once. But note that ALL fields
would be blocked, including date fields, REF fields, formulas, etc.

Finally, you could use a macro to lock only certain fields.

How do you EDIT the information that you can only see in PRINT PREVIEW. I
received a form generated from someone else and now need to make corrections
to the imformation that was filled in. I have tried locking and unlocking the
form.

I wouldn't expect to see anything only in print PREVIEW; it should also be
available in Print LAYOUT if it's in print preview. However, click the
"Magnifier" button in print preview to go into editing mode.
